Intro
This article talks about OpenAI's language model 'GpT-3' a relatively new model and currently the biggest one in the world, which produces text in a way that is scarily similar to that of a human's
What is a language model?
A language model is a model in machine learning that aims to predict the next word or sequence of words in a sentence based on previous input
'GPT-3', which is a language model created by OpenAI (an AI research and development company in San Francisco), stands for Generative Pre-trained Transformer 3. It is a system that can make sense of text having consumed a huge amount of words and can output text in an uncannily similar way to how a human would. Having been trained on billions of parameters it is currently the largest language model in the world.
Why does this sound so amazing and what makes it different from other language models?
GPT-3 proves the theory that increasing the number of parameters will also increase the accuracy of a model. Being trained on this many parameters also means that it only needs a handful of examples to be fed to it to perform a given task.
What can GPT-3 be used for?
Content creation
GPT-3 can be used for creating any type of content, like articles, stories, and even poetry. On top of this, since it predicts text based on previous input and by analyzing the patterns in the text, it can also ‘mimic’ a person’s tone of voice.
It is also being used for other text-related tasks such as summarization, translation, sentiment analysis, etc.
Chatbots
due to its ability to sound ‘human’, using GPT-3 as a chatbot promises a more natural conversation flow than other chatbots offer. Here's an example of what this looks like
Coding
Given all that has been said above, it isn't surprising that GPT-3 can also be used to produce code
AI art
No sector is spared. It seems GPT insists on making a mark on not just the tech and literary sector but the art sector as well
No, you're not getting replaced...yet
Though the creation of GPT-3 is mindblowing and as most would say, a revolutionary step in the history of AI, it is not perfect and still has a long way to go to come close to actual human intelligence.
Here are examples of places where GPT-3 is still lacking
Bias
this is one of the most popular problems in lots of machine learning models where the model gives more ‘attention’ towards certain parts of the dataset over others. This means that just like any other model GPT-3 can be tricked into producing racial, religious or gender-discriminating content.
'Intelligence'
like any other model out there, GPT-3 cannot be said to ‘understand’ the text it analyses and produces, it still at its most basic level remains just a model that predicts text based on previous input.
Inaccuracy?
...and some would agree with him, it seems that GPT is sometimes only focused on responding 'well' but not correctly
though most people are willing to ignore this...
